Our Fifth Generation Jesse’s Paddock is a beautifully smooth creamed honey, gathered from the flowering country around Bedfordale. Country our family has called home for five generations.

But the name belongs to one of the most loved characters in our family’s early story.

Jesse was a beautiful old Clydesdale, gentle, patient and extraordinarily strong. Long before tractors and trucks became part of orchard life, horses like Jesse provided the strength that kept everything moving. She worked alongside the first generations of our family as they cleared and tended the land, established orchards and built a livelihood here in Bedfordale.

She was a working horse, but she was also very much part of the family.

By the time our grandfather, the third generation, was a boy, Jesse was the big, slow, sweet-tempered horse the children loved and learned to ride. She had already spent years working the property, yet her gentle nature made her the horse they trusted.

Grandpa still tells a story about his Uncle Lou hauling a particularly heavy load down one of Bedfordale’s hillsides with Jesse. As the slope steepened, the load began gaining on them. Lou knew he had only one choice. Jesse had to run.

And run she did.

That great old Clydesdale galloped down the hillside, carried them safely through the danger and powered her way up the other side.

It’s only one story, but it says a great deal about Jesse: gentle when she could be, strong when she needed to be, and utterly dependable.

The orchards she helped establish became part of our family’s livelihood and part of the Bedfordale landscape we still know today. Generations have passed, horses have given way to machinery, and the way we work the land has changed. But that same country still blossoms, still bears fruit, and still provides forage for the bees.

Creamed until silky smooth, this honey brings together the changing floral character of our local landscape in a rich, mellow sweetness. Each batch is shaped by what is flowering, where the bees have wandered and what the season has given us.

Five generations later, we’re still working this land, and we haven’t forgotten the beautiful old horse who helped the generations before us do the same.
